Our love for the art of upholstery started when we owned a historic inn on an island in Maine. We ‘shopped’ in the inn’s attic, a.k.a. the Furniture Graveyard, to refresh the vibe, and to keep on budget.

Out of necessity, Scott began reupholstering. Nicole loved the design aspect. It was gratifying knowing we started with something which was long ago cast aside, and gave it a new life. They were great pieces, but just too tired from years of use, to be used prominently and proudly in a guest room, until they were reupholstered.

After moving back to New York, it was time to start anew. Several career changes and a handful of states later, we are happily doing something creative. We hope to advance the craft of upholstery, and save as much furniture as we can from ending up in a landfill, along the way, which makes our green hearts happy.

Reuse reduces waste, of course! There is a lot of potential within that old sofa, just waiting to get new foam, maybe an updated shape, ornamentation removed or added, and new fabric.

Working with an upholster saves a lot, even though it isn’t usually cheaper than buying new. We think it is better than all that is involved with mass-production (carbon footprint, freight, fuel…) of a product that may be considered disposable after a couple years.
